The Full Story
Dr. David Campbell thinks the Holy Spirit has a wild sense of humor. Once a pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA), then a Roman Catholic and a public school teacher, teaching Latin, History, Government, World Religions and assorted other things, he is currently a teacher in a Catholic High School and trying to light a rag under the faithful, almost faithful, vaguely faithful, and the certainly out to lunch. He has several relevant degrees from some pretty fancy places, but is pretty sure nobody really cares what they are.
Someone said once that if you haven't met Christ in scripture, you haven't really met Christ. The Damascus Road event was not enough for the Apostle Paul -- he had to take some time, search the scriptures, and think through what his Jesus Moment meant before he was ready to undertake the apostolic work that consumed the rest of his life. Crescendo is an effort to help the Lay Faithful and the Spiritually Floundering meet Jesus in Holy Scripture, to prepare them for the apostolic work to which all the faithful, by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation, are called.
The reflections published here are focused on the Lectionary readings for each day. The Lectionary doesn't cover the entire Bible, but it hits all the high spots, and all the liturgical seasons, to give readers a reliable scriptural basis for the content of Church teaching.
